What Is It For?
Endoscopic scarless forehead surgery removes lumps on the forehead — such as osteomas, lipomas and dermoid cysts — without leaving a scar on the forehead.
What the Surgery Involves
You are seen by the anaesthetist before surgery and admitted on the day of the operation, which takes about 1 hour under general anaesthesia. A small cut is made inside the hairline and the lump is removed with endoscopic instruments, so there is no visible scar. The wound is stitched and you go home the same evening with painkillers and antibiotics.
Recovery
- Swelling and bruising of the forehead and around the eyes is normal.
- Wound check and stitch removal after 1 week.
- Most swelling settles in a week; the final result shows at about 6 weeks.
- Normal activities from the next day; jogging, gym and sport after 3 weeks.
Possible Complications
Infection, bleeding, swelling, bruising and pain are the common complications; pain in hospital is managed by the acute pain service team. Recurrence of the lump is a remote possibility whichever surgical method is used.
